We were strolling through the town of Takeno and took a break at this cafe. I had a granola w/coffee and it was the perfect snack. The coffee was the best I’ve had on this trip. The owner spoke English and was so friendly. It was nice to talk story with him.

Tatsuki is a great host. He opened an hour early for us twice (9 am) because now (April) is low season and nowhere else open for breakfast. Good English. Great drip coffee. Our sort of granola and yoghurt - not sweet.

A brilliant cafe! Currently at a perfect 42 5 star reviews which is well deserved. The food was lovely, the cafe was beautiful and the owner speaks English fluently and is conscientious, selfless and seems to be a great guy! The two best cafes we visited in the area BOTH personally recommended this place and it shows.

This cafe is a delightful gem on the stunning north coast of Hyogo prefecture (about 3hrs north-west of Kyoto). We stopped here by chance after cycling from Kinosaki to Takenohama Beach. The cafe is 10 seconds walk from the shoreline and offers a comfortable atmosphere and thoughtfully curated menu of drinks and treats, made with locally sourced ingredients. We had an apple and lemon parfait with homemade granola which was fantastic - the flavours and textures were perfectly balanced. The owner was friendly and welcoming, and spoke fluent English - a wonderful host. This cafe would not seem out of place in any stylish, cosmopolitan city. It may be out of the way from the usual tourist destinations, but it is well worth the visit if you are passing through Kinosaki, Toyooka or surrounds - you will not be disappointed!

Cafe CouCou is the perfect spot to stop in for coffee and food. The yogurt parfait and granola bars are delicious! Just a few steps from the beach as well. Thank you to the owner Tatsuki-san for making us feel at home.
